Poor heart health and diet have been linked to the development of dementia in older patients.Timothy Parry, spokesman for the Alzheimer's Research Trust, has said that maintaining a healthy lifestyle in middle-age will lead to benefits in older-age.He said: "The best advice in mid-life is to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly, though it's never too late to improve lifestyle and reap the many health benefits it brings."Mr Parry reiterated claims that funding for dementia is below the levels needed in the UK today."The population with dementia is forecast to double within a generation, and costs set to spiral to £50 billion in 30 years."Unless we act, dementia is set to become the single most crucial health issue for our society," he said. The disease affects a wide section of society, with currently around 700,000 people suffering from dementia in the UK, according to the Alzheimer's Research Trust.
