The Association of Mutual Insurers will formally merge with the Association of Friendly Societies on 1 January 2010 to create a new mutual insurance trade body, the Association of Financial Mutuals. It will bring together AMI's 36 member organisations and AFS's 45 members. Some are members of both and some members are not actively trading, so the total number of active members will be less than 80.   Mike Yardley explains, ''During the financial crisis the mutual insurance sector has proved that it is robust and capable of providing exceptional value to its customers. Maintaining a vibrant mutual sector helps keep up competitive pressure on shareholder-owned firms and means consumers continue to be offered real choice. So we look forward to the Association of Financial Mutuals making an even stronger case for the relevance of the mutual insurance sector.''   The Association of Mutual Insurers members:  Benenden Healthcare Society British Friendly Society Cirencester Friendly Society Civil Service Healthcare Society Communication Workers Friendly Society Cornish Mutual Dentists and General Society Dentists' Provident Society Druids Sheffield Friendly Society Ecclesiastical engage Mutual Assurance Equitable Life Exeter Friendly Society Family Investments Health Shield Friendly Society Healthy Investment Housing Association Mutual Insurance Association Kingston Unity Friendly Society Liveries Mutual LV= Medical Protection Society MGM Advantage National Friendly NFU Mutual Insurance Group Police Mutual Reliance Mutual Royal Liver Royal London Insurance Group Scottish Friendly Assurance Society Sunderland Marine Mutual Insurance Company Teachers Assurance The Children's Mutual The Oddfellows The Shepherds Friendly Society UIA (Insurance Wesleyan Assurance Society    Association of Friendly Societies members: Ancient Order of Foresters Friendly Society Anglo-Saxons Friendly Society          Bacon
